About My Approach
What kind of therapy do you offer?
I'm a counsellor, an acupuncturist, and cognitive hypnotherapist. I use these approaches either alone or together in an integrative way to work with a wide range of emotional, psychological, and physical problems.
I aim to work with you in a supportive and collaborative way that's tailored to whatever you need most help with - whether that's better emotional regulation, deeper self-understanding, or relief from a physical issue that's troubling you. I'm interested in the kind of deep work that produces significant lasting benefit rather than quick fixes or surface solutions.
What's your therapeutic style?
I aim to work compassionately and supportively with whatever you choose to bring. Warmth and empathy are some of my key values, and my intention is to help you explore yourself in a way that creates meaningful change in what you're struggling with.
My sessions are reflective, grounded, and exploratory. I'm an engaging therapist, so I won't sit in silence with what you have to say. I'll be curious and connected so that you find the sessions rich, rewarding, and full of discovery. I focus on depth and addressing problems at their root rather than surface or superficial solutions.
What's the difference between counselling and therapy?
The terms are often used interchangeably, and in my practice, they refer to the same process. Both involve talking with a trained professional about your concerns and working together to create positive change. I use "counselling" and "therapy" to mean the same thing a collaborative exploration of your experience.
What problems do you help with?
I support people with a wide range of concerns, including:
Emotional and Mental Health:
- Depression and low mood
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Stress and overwhelm
- Confidence issues and low self-esteem
Trauma and Recovery:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Recovery from abuse
- Emotional aspects of addiction
Relationships and Personal Growth:
- Issues surrounding intimacy and sexuality
- Relationship difficulties
- Life transitions and personal development
- Existential questions about meaning and purpose
Physical Health (Acupuncture):
- A wide range of physical issues for which acupuncture is appropriate
- Stress-related physical symptoms
- Support for emotional regulation through nervous system babalance
How long does therapy typically take?
This varies greatly depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term work (6-12 sessions), while others prefer longer-term exploration. We can discuss what might work best for you during our initial sessions, and this can always be reviewed as we go.
What should I expect in my first session?
In your first session, we'll spend time getting to know each other and understanding what's brought you to therapy. I'll ask about your current situation, your background, and what you're hoping to get from our work together. There's no pressure to dive into difficult material immediately, we'll work at a pace that feels right for you.
How do I know if therapy is working?
People often notice changes in different ways—feeling less overwhelmed by emotions, having new insights about patterns in their life, feeling more comfortable in their own skin, or finding that problems that once felt insurmountable seem more manageable. We can check in regularly about how you're finding the process.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, therapy sessions are strictly confidential within professional and legal boundaries. This creates a safe space for you to explore your concerns openly. I'm bound by professional codes of conduct that protect your privacy.
Do you offer online sessions?
Currently, I offer sessions in person at my practice in Berkhamsted. I find that the depth of work I do benefits from the in-person connection, and this also allows me to integrate acupuncture when appropriate.
Can I use therapy alongside medication?
Absolutely. Therapy can complement medication prescribed by your GP or psychiatrist. I encourage you to keep your prescribing doctor informed about your therapy, and please let me know about any medications you're taking.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?
It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. If you're curious but unsure, I'm happy to discuss your situation briefly over the phone to help you decide whether therapy might be beneficial. There's no pressure to commit to ongoing sessions after an initial appointment.
