A Place of Healing for Over 80 Years

Berkhamsted Chiropractic Clinic has been a place of healing for a remarkable 82 years. It's Britain's longest standing chiropractic clinic in its original location and operates as a multidisciplinary clinic with many practitioners. All of us here are passionate about helping people with a variety of physical and emotional difficulties, supporting them toward better health and wellbeing.

I run my own practice from the clinic, where I provide gestalt counselling, traditional acupuncture, and integrative approaches to health. My training spans over two decades in these fields, and I'm registered with both the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and The British Acupuncture Council.

An Integrative Approach to Wellbeing

What sets my practice apart is the integration of different therapeutic approaches. Rather than treating mind and body as separate, I work with the understanding that emotional and physical wellbeing are intimately connected.

Gestalt Therapy: I help people develop awareness of their whole experience—thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and relationships thereby supporting a natural capacity for healing and growth.

Traditional Acupuncture: Using fine needles at specific points to support the body's natural healing processes, particularly effective for pain, stress, and chronic conditions.

Integrative Approach: Combining these modalities when appropriate, recognizing that some people benefit from addressing both emotional and physical aspects of their experience.

Flexible Scheduling for Busy Lives

Understanding that seeking help shouldn't add stress to your life, I offer flexible appointment times Monday - Friday and late evening sessions for those who need out-of-office-hours appointments.

Individual-Centered Care

No two people receive the same treatment because no two people are the same. Each session is tailored to your unique needs, circumstances, and goals. Whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, or life transitions, we work together to find approaches that make sense for you.

This might involve talking therapy, acupuncture, or a combination of approaches. The goal isn't to fit you into a predetermined treatment plan, but to discover what supports your particular path toward greater wellbeing.

Why People Seek This Kind of Support

People come to see me for many different reasons:

Stress and Anxiety: Learning to work with overwhelming feelings rather than being controlled by them

Chronic Pain: Addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of persistent pain conditions

Life Transitions: Support during major changes like career shifts, relationship changes, or loss

Depression: Working with feelings of stuckness, sadness, or disconnection from life

Relationship Difficulties: Improving communication, boundaries, and ways of connecting with others

Sleep and Relaxation: Addressing insomnia and developing better stress management

Personal Growth: Exploring questions of meaning, purpose, and authentic living

The Mind-Body Connection

In recent years, there's been growing recognition of how profoundly mental and emotional states influence physical health. Stress affects immune function, chronic pain often involves emotional factors, and our relationships impact our nervous system in measurable ways.

This isn't alternative medicine, it's an understanding that's increasingly supported by mainstream healthcare. Traditional acupuncture is recommended by NICE for certain conditions, and talking therapies are recognized as effective treatments for everything from anxiety to chronic pain.

The integration of these approaches recognizes that healing often happens most effectively when we work with the whole person rather than isolated symptoms.

What You Can Expect

Initial Consultation: We'll spend time understanding your situation, what you've tried before, and what you hope to achieve. This helps determine which approaches might be most helpful.

Collaborative Approach: You're not a passive recipient of treatment but an active participant in your healing process. We work together to find what helps.

Respect for Your Pace: Some people want to dive deep quickly, others prefer to take things slowly. We work at a pace that feels right for you.

Integration with Other Care: If you're receiving medical treatment or other support, I'm happy to work collaboratively to ensure coordinated care.

A Different Kind of Healthcare

What I offer isn't about quick fixes or symptom management, it's about supporting your natural capacity for healing and growth. Sometimes this leads to rapid improvements, sometimes it's a gradual process of developing new capacities and perspectives.

The goal is always to help you feel more like yourself, more authentic, more capable of handling life's challenges, more connected to your own wisdom about what supports your wellbeing.

Convenient Location

Located in the historic market town of Berkhamsted, the clinic is easily accessible by car with parking available, and Berkhamsted station is served by regular trains from London Euston. The location provides a peaceful setting away from urban stress while remaining convenient for people throughout Hertfordshire and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between gestalt therapy and other types of counselling?

Gestalt therapy focuses on your whole experience in the present moment not just thoughts, but emotions, body sensations, and relationships. Rather than analyzing problems, we explore what's happening right now and support your natural capacity for growth and healing.

How do you decide whether to use therapy, acupuncture, or both?

This depends on your particular situation and preferences. Some people benefit most from talking therapy, others from acupuncture, and many find a combination helpful. We'll discuss what makes sense for your specific needs.

Do you work with couples or just individuals?

I primarily work with individuals, though the skills people develop often improve their relationships significantly. If couples work is what you're looking for, I can refer you to qualified couples therapists.

Is acupuncture painful? Acupuncture needles are extremely fine much thinner than injection needles. Most people find the experience surprisingly comfortable and deeply relaxing. Any sensations are usually brief and mild.

How many sessions will I need? This varies greatly depending on what you're working with and your individual response. Some people notice significant changes in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. We'll regularly review progress and adjust the approach as needed.
